A Note On Diversity In The CRT Setting...
The setting of Circa Regna Tonat is a-historical, so while we've drawn on gender roles and norms from the time and the source material, we've also tried not to be too heavy handed with defining these, as our characters are written to explore those norms. The way your character relates to the norms, pressures and expectations of their society will be detailed in your character’s background and can be discussed with your writing ref.
However, in broad strokes this is what to expect;
- The social standards of gender roles and sexuality in this game impose a societal expectation of heterosexuality, cisnormativity and/or chastity on most if not all characters.
- Warfare, one of the major concerns of the game, is considered a primarily male domain. Only men are called on when levies are raised, only men are knights, women are not expected to train in arms. However, it is not unusual for women of high rank to play a role in the execution of war and to take part in battle personally.
- Rank and title is the most important distinction when it comes to social roles, levels of education and participation in political affairs.
- Ethnic identity is distinguished by nationality and faith. The difference of faith is taken seriously where it exists with other faiths seen as misguided at best and heretical at worst.
Because conflict and emotive roleplay is highly likely in this game, and because even a-historically our setting does not reflect a particularly enlightened society, when exploring themes related to race, gender and sexuality in the story we ask our players to observe the following guidelines;
- Avoid or limit the use of outright slurs IC. This may be appropriate between some specific characters, but we encourage everyone to exercise restraint with this sort of dialogue.
- Avoid or limit physically aggressive roleplay. Raised voices may be appropriate, but long periods of bellowing or physically invading other people’s space may make other players uncomfortable on an OOC basis.
- An OOC quiet space will be provided during the game and players are entitled to take time out at any point during the game.
As per our golden rule, we expect all our players to be considerate of the comfort and experience of others. This includes responsible IC treatment of subjects which may impact other players OOC enjoyment.

The game will be taking place at the Birks. The venue is an old building in a remote location without mobile signal or Internet, and there are a few accssibility issues you may wish to consider if mobility or fatigue are issues for you. These include:
- Uneven flooring. Some parts of the building have very old, uneven floorboards and flagstones, some of which have subsided slightly, creating lips and ruts in places.
- The front entrance to the house is across a gravel path, up to a flagstone step approximately 3″ in height. This can make it difficult for wheelchair users or people who have difficulty walking. We will endeavour to assist wherever possible.
- There are internal stairs which will restrict movement for wheelchair users and may be problematic for those with limited mobility. Navigation of a small set of steps is necessary to reach the bathroom area from the entrance. Further flights of stairs must be ascended to reach bedrooms.
- There is a downstairs toilet and shower area which is accessible for wheelchair users once they have been raised above the initial entrance level and are in the main living room area.
- Players will have access to the forested area outside the venue during the game, which are not accessible for a wheelchair user and may cause difficulty for those with mobility issues. The problems include uneven paths, muddy and marshy ground that may be water-logged through the year and managed forest areas where old trees have been left to rot. This results in highly unstable footing for all individuals wishing to explore the area.

Payment, Characters and Refunds
Payment for this event is in two parts; a deposit, which secures your place as a player, followed by a full payment later in the year. When character backgrounds are ready for release, you will be sent an email with payment details for the outstanding ticket price and will be sent your background when you have done so. This is typically two or three months prior to the game.
Character writing comes in three phases; the questionnaire, the brief, and the release. When you sign up to play, you will be asked to fill out a Google Questionnaire in which you can give the ref team an overview about what sort of character you want to play and what you want to avoid. Typically a month or so after booking opens a ref will contact you directly with a brief of the character we intend to write for you, which you can give further feedback on. Once characters have been released only minor alterations to the background can be accommodated, as significant alterations may conflict with the information given to other players and due to the time constraints of the ref team. As such, we recommend being as clear and open as possible about the character you want to play in the initial conversations with your character ref.
As all our games are run at cost, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee refunds once money has been transferred. In the event that a player needs to drop out of an event, their character may be offered to another player at full, reduced or no cost, depending on the proximity to event. If any money is paid by the new player this will go towards a refund for the original player. This is strictly done at the discretion of the ref team.
